Beat the number 1 super heavyweight in texas.. I'm born in raised I texas.. I played college football.. I have seen and played against huge men... I literally could not conceive how John could beat a person like that... he beat Lynnlee easily... its a different level of understanding of strength.. I still don't understand it. Bizarre is the best word. I still can see it.. and not believe it
Arm wrestling fans are lucky to be alive during the time of the greatest ever. 100 years from now people will only have old videos. We got to see him live. Someday when arm wrestling is as big as boxing or ufc, his trophies will be held in an arm wrestling museum.
Arm wrestling will never get that big and even if it did he would be surpassed as the goat as the level John dominated is far less the even today. Arm wrestling was unrefined in his time
I remember years ago watching his super-match on late night TV with Devon Larret from 2015. I got bored one winter a year later and tried to find the guy back on youtube and there it was. I started to look into who John was and watched pulling John and then watched every video I could find on the Internet about him and any interview he may have done just really anything about him. There was nothing new or recent at that time of him But I was just amazed with his story because I’m such a sports fan. I would search his name almost every day for months to see if anything new would come up even if it were people just talking about him. I still search his name as a keyword and select upload date weekly to see if there is anything and thats what brought me here lol. Then all of a sudden, Ryan Bowen popped up on my keyword search for John Brzenk And they started to do interviews and even a few live streams and it was just unbelievable to hear from John and Cj again and for me it was the first time to actually see who this person was in real time. I continued to follow and there was talk about him coming back, but it never seemed quite real until the chance Shaw match was announced and the tournament he did the week before where he beat Cody Merritt. I watched the chant Shaw match live and I remember being nervous for it like I was competing myself because I didn’t wanna get let down I guess. I remember when he won that match it kind of choked me up a little bit. Here I was watching what I believe is the most amazing story in athletics and I’m watching a legend that I followed and he just happened to come back out of nowhere and I happen to get involved in everything and interested at the perfect time to see it all unravel. I have since communicated with John personally and we email back-and-forth as we both share a passion for snowmobiling. One day, the story of John Brzenk will be put on display for the entire world to see and I will get to say I saw an experienced that firsthand as it happened. It’s been truly an honor to watch him compete and communicate with him. When God made wrestlers, he made that guy right there.

I've been following arm wrestling for years. There were and are great athletes in this sport. But I've always felt that John Brzenk is truly the greatest arm wrestler of all time 💪
The thing I notice most about John is that be NEVER seems to get himself in a bad position. His form is flawless and he always seems to keep his form regardless of how tough his match may be.
After his lates win at east vs west 14, john is definitely still the goat. We now know these over seas matches our guys have been having mixed results finally came to america and realized coming to a different country in a different time zone and long flights has a major effect on performance.
This is what every armwrestling watcher must know as a basic. I allready knew. But last tike I see a poll of who is the Goat. And John was voted 3rd place. That shows you how little people know. They see a current champion and say ow that's the Goat. No people that's not how it works. John is the Goat 4 ever
@coatofarmwars you did a phenomenal job. I was 5 when I saw over the top and John for the first time. He had glasses and I wear glasses . Today it's normal to have glasses on in the early 80's you was seen as a weak nerd. John boosted my self-esteem at a very young age because of that.
Seems that his recepi for success was doing TONS of armwrestling competitions, while as others went to gym, he just kept on armwrestling and competing. Giving him tremendous experience.
Dude you killed it on this. Wish more people were aware of johns insane peak. I first heard of him in 04 and couldn't believe how long he had been at the top. Showed all my buddy in the army barracks in south korea and they all were amazed as well. Then he stayed there for 10 more years after that! Wow. I still laugh at people who try to bring up devon or levan as the greatest ever. Its just laughable to compare careers. I mean think about it with devon. He lost to john in 99 and thats was when john was already near the end of 2 decades of dominance. We will never see another run like the perfect storm. Grest documentary.
And ten he kills it again.. probably one of his best matches ever? He never stops surprising us. damn, maybe we all should've broke our arms when we were younger?
In one video (I think short) which I can't track down, John spoke about all the *issues* he has with his right arm due to 40 years of active armwrestling. He said too much sidepressure makes his shoulder uncomfortable or even hurt, his tendons are popping and cracking when his arm gets stretched by force, etc. But overall for 40 years of quite extreme sport it's basically nothing, especially at his age. John only practiced once a week for his entire life (even less recently), and it seems like even that might have been too much or just a little too much since he acquired some long lasting injuries. Still goat, and still in shape.
